The Changeover constraint is used to specify
preferences for the features that can be sequenced
together or consecutively. Some typical examples
of Changeover constraints are as follows:
- Units of the same color are sequenced consecutively.
- Each unit should be succeeded or preceded by units of the same model.
- Side air bag units cannot be back to back.
To ensure that units of the same color are
sequenced consecutively, a color changeover
constraint is defined. The sequencing engine
assigns a penalty to placing two different colored
units next to each other and no penalty to successive
units of the same color. Hence there will be
no penalty for a red car followed by another
red car; there will, however, be a penalty for
placing a red car after a white car.

shows more frequent color changes:
